KTH Global Development Hub (GDH) was initiated in 2017 based on the principles of mutual capacity building, where KTH in close collaboration with African partner universities are developing joint education, innovation, and research activities for sustainable development and transformation. Through implementation of challenge-driven education (CDE) and a joint student mobility program, conditions are created for our students to collaborate with each other and various external stakeholders in projects that are addressing societal challenges related to the UN SDGs. While gaining international experiences, key competences and agency, students and involved stakeholders are collaboratively generating new perspectives on the addressed challenges and solution proposals that can be taken further in innovation, entrepreneurship, or research processes.

This conference invites faculty, students, and others involved in Challenge-Driven Education, for sharing experiences and ideas and initiating collaboration. The conference is co-created by and involves participants from KTH, Botho University in Botswana, Strathmore University in Kenya, University of Dar Es Salaam, University of Rwanda, and University of Cape Town.

Additional information

In 2022 KTH launched an Africa strategy, and GDH is an essential cornerstone in implementing this strategy. In short, GDH focuses on establishing partnerships for mutual capacity building for sustainable development through collaboration on challenge-driven education, innovation, and related research.

In addition to the GDH conference, KTH is planning a delegation visit to Kigali, Rwanda, in March 2023. The theme for the visit is innovation connected to challenge-driven research and education. The aim is to broaden the partnerships within GDH and Africa and find new channels and forms of collaboration.

If the GDH conference results in new opportunities for collaboration and partnerships, there are limited funds available for KTH-colleagues who wish to continue to seek collaborarion with the GDH-partners, and it will also be possible for a number of colleagues to join the delegation visit to Kigali.
