Decision on closure of the competence centre - Centre for the Future of Places (CFP)

Published Sep 24, 2021

KTH's President Sigbritt Karlsson has decided to close the competence centre Centre for the Future of Places (CFP).

The centre has been running for 5 years (2016-09-06-2021-09-05) and the plan was to have the centre in operation for another five years, but due to lack of funds from Ax: son Johnson Foundation, the parties have decided to close the centre after the first period. A self-evaluation report with a request for closure has been established and presented for the Vice-President for Research, Annika Stensson-Trigell, who has approved the report and decided to close the centre.
The centre has been led by Tigran Haas, ABE school and the host school has always been the ABE school.

About the Centre for the Future of Places (CFP)

KTH's research in urban planning and urban design is internationally recognised, in particular
areas of growing importance such as safety and the impact of the built environment on mental and

To further strengthen this environment, KTH established the competence centre
Centre for the Future of Places (CFP) in 2016, with external co-financing from the Ax: son Johnson Foundation for public benefit purposes in urban planning and urban design, with a special focus on
public space, where research and development has been conducted in an international and interdisciplinary
