KTH's President Sigbritt Karlsson has decided to establish the heading centre formation Blue Food with a term of office 2021-01-01 - 2024-12-31 with the ABE school as the host school. In the same decision, Associate Professor Fredrik Gröndahl is appointed Director of the new centre.

The purpose of the centre formation Blue Food is to establish a national seafood center, which aims to develop Swedish sustainable production of seafood that will be available to more people throughout Sweden. A primary task is to utilize the wild fish catch more efficiently and to develop a modern aquaculture for fish, shellfish and algae in collaboration with about 70 partners.
The centre's partners consist of KTH, Uppsala University, SLU, Chalmers, University of Gothenburg, RISE, IVL and Innovatum Science Park. In addition, there are about 60 support partners who contribute with natural contributions grants.
