How does it feel?

Unexpected! And slightly mind-blowing I must say! But it is great, and very interesting to work with the strategy of leading the department forward in the coming years. I like to drive development, and work with people, so the assignment as Head of Department feels very exciting. I want to be involved in and try to ensure that Civil and Architectural Engineering is really visible and continues to be at the forefront. We have a fantastic organisation at the department with successful education, research and collaboration.

What is your background?

I have been at KTH for about two years as a researcher, teacher, and Head of the Division of Constructional Engineering and Design. My research interests are simulation of fresh concrete movements and its rheology. I teach a lot, including fluid mechanics, building materials and construction. Previously, I worked in research for the Swedish Cement and Concrete Research Institute (RISE CBI) which actually also has its premises on campus, basically just two buildings from my current office. But really, I'm not that new to KTH, I actually studied the old Civil engineering programme, Väg- och vatten (V-92). It feels great to be back, a bit like coming home.

What happens next in your new role?

The next step is to start the work of securing our competence provision at the department, and of course also to familiarise myself with all the different parts of the Head of Department position. Going forward, I also want to work on strengthening the team spirit in the workplace. What we do is teamwork - we develop and run the department together.
