Publish-or-perish, scientometrics, journal impact factor, h-index are concepts that have become familiar to most researchers. Research evaluation has traditionally focused on more or less reliable quantitative indicators based on the statistical analysis of scientific publications (bibliometrics) in order to assess their impact. But what does “impact” mean exactly?

Beyond citations in scientific research outputs, making your publications visible on social media, news channels or Wikipedia may also increase the potential readership of your research. These communication efforts can be measured by so-called altmetrics.

In this workshop you will take a glance at some bibliometric indicators, how they can be interpreted and how they are used at KTH. You will also gain insight into how you can communicate your publications to make them visible along different dimensions of altmetrics through the tool Altmetric Explorer.
