KTH Equality Forum- presentation of the recipient of The Presidents Equality and Diversity Award 2021

Welcome to a presentation and Q & A with the recipient for The Presidents Equality and Diversity Award for 2021, Associate Professor at the Division of Media Technology and interactive Design, Madeline Balaam.
The event will be held in English.

Time: Thu 2022-05-19 11.00 - 12.00

Madeline Balaams research is concerned with Interaction Design for health and wellbeing.

Dr. Balaam is driven by a desire to design technologies which better meet the needs and practices of people in their everyday lives and in doing so she applies participatory and user-centred design methods. For the last decade her research has focused on the design, development and study of intimate technologies. Within the field of HCI intimate technologies typically concerns technologies that relate to an intimate body part, intimate body process, or intimate relationships.

A quote from the motivation of the award committee at KTH is as follows:
“It’s admirable to dare and have the energy to be in the forefront of an entirely new field in a male-dominated environment, and within a research field where KTH hasn’t previously been engaged. She has made both female and male students at KTH feel seen and given them hope that KTH can conduct research and develop design technology within all areas."

The forum will begin with a presentation of Dr. Balaams reseach followed by the possibility to ask questions. The event will be moderated by KTH Equality Office.
