Life long learning - sharing of experience from Purdue University

This seminar is a result from KTHs USA delegation trip and visit at University of Purdue in May 2022. One item for the visit was to share experience on further education and life long learning.

Purdue University is becoming a leader in online education for advanced degrees, bachelor's degrees for non-traditional students, and reskilling and upskilling offerings for business and industry. The goal is to become Best in Class for online education. The College of Engineering is already delivering top-quality programs at-scale in a wide variety of Engineering disciplines, several of which are ranked #1 in the country. In addition, the College of Engineering offers a number of digital badges for upskilling working professionals, some of which are in partnership with industry. This talk will also discuss strategies in innovation including personalized learning and virtual labs.

Dr. Gary R. Bertoline is Senior Vice President Purdue Online and Learning Innovation and a Distinguished Professor of Computer Graphics Technology and Computer & Information Technology at Purdue University. He is leading the development and growth of Purdue Online programs to serve working professionals and address the workforce needs of industry. He is also one of the leads in the Transformation Education 2.0 initiative at Purdue to improve undergraduate teaching and learning.

D. Dimitrios Peroulis is the Reilly Professor and Michael and Katherine Birck Head of the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. He also serves as a special adviser to the Dean of Engineering on online learning. He is an IEEE Fellow and has co-authored over 380 journal and conference papers. In 2019 he received the “Tatsuo Itoh” Award and in 2014 he received the Outstanding Young Engineer Award both from the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). His students have received numerous student paper awards and other student research-based scholarships. He has been a Purdue University Faculty Scholar and has also received ten teaching awards including the 2010 HKN C. Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2010 Charles B. Murphy award, which is Purdue University's highest undergraduate teaching honor.

Professor Lina Bertling Tjernberg will moderate the seminar. She is coordinator of Life long learning at KTH EECS school and was destination responsible for the USA visit at Purdue University. She is a professor in Power Grid Technology.
