We are happy to welcome Michael Broomé to give a talk with the following abstract:
Intensive care in severe and complex cardiovascular disease constitutes a combination of drugs, surgery, and MedTech support devices. The aim is to optimize blood flow and oxygen delivery to the tissues in order to avoid secondary organ damage while the heart and lungs are recovering. Every patient is different with varying combinations of left and right heart failure, valve disease and vascular changes. It is impossible to choose treatment solely based on randomized controlled trials. Cardiovascular simulation is a new tool within the larger framework of personalized medicine with a potential to change decision making in future clinical medicine. The real-time simulation model Aplysia CardioVascular Lab is presented as a state-of-the-art tool for analyzing and treating complex cardiovascular and pulmonary disease in children and adults.
