Warning for extortion mail

Published Jun 03, 2019

Several recipients have recently received e-mails with extortion attempts.

These cases may need to be reported to the police. This is handled by KTH IT or security manager (CISO). Do not reply to the extortion mail. Contact IT support , it-support@kth.se.

The sender claims to have documented surfing habits with the recipient's webcam or followed the individual and documented an alleged love affair. There are also emails about "We are a gang that specialize in kidnapping and extortion" "I hacked your unit someone@kth.se and you have a problem now" etc
Usually the extortioner requests that you pay a certain amount of bitcoin within 24 hours.
If you receive such an e-mail, it is most likely a bluff.
