Smart cities are gradually being realised around the world to optimise urban services while supporting economic development. However, the smart agenda often fail to contribute to sustainable development because it is not directly relevant to existing social problems. In this presentation, Andrew Karvonen will present empirical findings on how smart cities are being designed to address real world urban problems, notably health and well-being of elderly urban residents. The findings demonstrate the potential for smart to contribute to more sustainable, equitable and liveable cities.

The presentation will be held in English.
