The speaker will be the renowned Dr. Yifang Ban, Professor and Director of the Division of Geoinformatics at the Department of Urban Planning and Environment at KTH.

About the talk
Our planet is facing unprecedented environmental challenges, including rapid urbanization, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. In recent years, the frequency of natural disasters such as droughts, heat waves, and wildfires has intensified, causing significant loss of life and extensive damages. Satellite remote sensing, with its synoptic view, large area coverage and regular revisits, has become a critical tool for monitoring these global changes.
In this talk, Professor Ban will showcase the groundbreaking research of the EO-AI4GlobalChange project, which develops cutting-edge methods to monitor environmental changes using Earth Observation big data and deep learning, focusing on urbanization and wildfires. She will highlight novel deep learning-based techniques for urban mapping and change detection, demonstrating remarkable advancements in generalizing across diverse regions. Further, she will explore the integration of multi-sensor data and deep learning for enhanced early detection and real-time monitoring of wildfires.
