The SIGDIAL conference provides a regular forum for the presentation of cutting-edge research in discourse and dialogue to both academic and industry researchers. The conference is sponsored by the SIGdial organization, which serves as the Special Interest Group in discourse and dialogue for both ACL (Association for Computational Linguistics) and ISCA (International Speech Communication Association).
SIGDIAL typically attracts around 150 researchers from both academia and industry. Recent years have seen a huge increase in the interest in deep learning and artificial intelligence in general, including models for processing dialog and discourse. In the industry, the development of chatbots, smart speakers and social robots has exploded lately, and the list of sponsors for the conference includes Honda, Microsoft, Amazon, Spotify, Apple and Toshiba.
At the same time, it is vital that our scientific understanding of the basic principles of human communication is addressed. SIGDIAL allows researchers from all over the world to meet and learn from each other about the most recent advancements on these topics.
