Five reasons for KTH researchers to join the KTH Innovation pre-incubator program
Working on your research and a commercialization project at the same time can seem daunting. But with support from KTH Innovation and a spot in the KTH Innovation pre-incubator program it’s proven to be possible – over 70% of the 159 projects so far accepted to the program have been considered successful at exit, and many of them were founded by KTH researchers. - Take the chance and see where the program and interactions with other entrepreneurial students and researchers lead you, says business coach Daniel Carlsson. You will definitely learn a lot as the program is set-up to train you on basically all aspects needed to develop your idea - be it pitching, establishing partnerships or securing funding. If it does not work out you can of course exit at any time.
KTH researchers have been behind many of the program’s most successful alumni. Logistics company Airmee’s technology is based on research from KTH. Since graduating from the program in 2017, they’ve grown their service to set a new standard for last-mile delivery optimization in Stockholm, and recently secured a 160 MSEK investment (article in Swedish) .
Another example is Monocular, a platform for real-time collaborative pre-visualization of movies or other audiovisual works, founded by researchers from KTH and Stockholm University of the Arts.
- The KTH Innovation pre-incubator program really helped us find the right way forward for our project, says founder Simon Alexanderson, a researcher at the Department of Speech, Music and Hearing at the EECS School. In the beginning, we weren’t particularly structured, and didn’t know how to communicate our idea. Being in an environment with people in the same process was great for us. It gave us new experiences and grew our network.
The KTH Innovation pre-incubator program is a one-year program for students, researchers, and employees at KTH who want to develop their startup or research commercialization projects. Twice a year, KTH Innovation accepts 15 new projects into the program, which gives you prioritized business development coaching, weekly workshops to develop as an entrepreneur, and a place in KTH Innovation’s supportive community.
