The president has appointed Sofia Ritzén, professor of Integrated Product Development and Design, to the office of the Dean of Faculty. Concurrently, the president appointed Anna Finne Wistrand, professor of polymer technology, to the office of Vice Dean of Faculty. Their terms of office will conclude June 2023.

Ritzén, who previously served as vice dean of faculty, replaces Anders Forsgren, who requested to leave the position prematurely.

Ordinarily, the dean and dean of faculty are appointed after an election within the university. The Faculty Council Nomination Committee has proposed that an election to fill the vacancy should not be held at this point, since an election is set for the Spring term of 2023.

The president’s decision is in accordance with the Nomination Committee’s proposal that Ritzén and Wistrand be appointed as dean and vice dean, respectively, until June 2023.

In addition, the Nomination Committee has decided that Bo Cederwall, professor of physics, will fill the vacancy on the Faculty Council as a teacher-member.

A well-functioning team

Ritzén says that the Faculty Council has developed as a well-functioning team and that council has begun a number of activities that it wants to complete during its current term of office.

”It felt natural and I feel honored that the council has confidence in me to take on the role of dean,” she says. “I feel that I have good support among colleagues at KTH as well,” she says.

One thing she wants to focus on during this period is to further develop KTH's quality system so that it creates value for those affected by it — namely, students, teachers and researchers, as well as management. This also includes developing how KTH recruits and develops employees.

“I hope to continue this strong commitment when it comes to participating in the joint work we do to develop KTH, which is the glue between our individual research projects and educational efforts,” Ritzén says.
