Amelie about increasing rental costs

Published Jan 25, 2023

Head of school Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about the financial situation for KTH and the CBH School, and what the management is doing to improve the situation.

Last week, the heads of schools were on an off-site conference together with the President, Deputy President, University Director and Deputy University Director of KTH. It was two intensive days with many interesting discussions. An important issue that was discussed was the financial situation and what we can do to improve the situation at KTH, both in the short and long term. Since the rental costs are calculated with inflation, we will have increased premises costs, which is extra problematic because KTH already has high rental costs due to the location in Stockholm, where rents are higher than in other parts of the country. We need to review the utilization of premises, and the work with this, which started in 2022, will continue in 2023. At the CBH School, the MTH institution in Flemingsberg has already moved out of one corridor that we hope to sublease. KTH needs to have a balanced economy, but it is important that any changes are also good for the business and measures must therefore be well thought out.

Finally, it was great to meet so many of you when we gave a farewell party to our former Head of School Micke at AlbaNova last Friday! As a gift from the school, he received beach towels with prints from our four different campuses, so he can think of his time at CBH School when lying on the beach in the future.
