CBH's Head of school has appointed Peta Sjölander as coordinator with the aim of increasing the range of education in Lifelong learning at the CBH School, starting on the first of November.

What is Livslångt lärande?

“Lifelong learning (3L) can be defined as the pursuit of knowledge that is motivated by personal and/or professional ambition. More specifically, we see a growing need for high-quality courses that professionals can take advantage of but which are also flexible enough to fit into busy work schedules.”

What will be your role at CBH?

“My main role right now is to get the 3L information out so our faculty members can consider the opportunities and know that they can get support with their ideas. In the longer term, activities will need to be tracked and coordinated to make sure things run smoothly and sustainably. I’m also looking forward to being part of a group of school representatives where we will be able to exchange ideas and experiences with each other as well as with Anders Johansson who is the President’s adviser on 3L matters.”

Why is this role needed?

“KTH has the ambition that, by 2023, it will have substantially increased its number of 3L courses, and the number of professional students who have access to them. There are plenty of practical hurdles to be overcome, and new administrative routines to be designed, to be able to realize such an ambition. And, to be effective, we need to coordinate efforts so no one is over-burdened.”

How come you were asked to take this on?

“I think they asked me because I’ve undertaken some pretty large tasks in the past, and this is potentially huge. Having said that, KTH teachers are right now creating innovative solutions to enable distance learning for their students, and these measures are precisely what also works for 3L. In addition, many CBH faculty members have long-standing contacts with industry and healthcare, so the timing is perfect for anyone who wants to get involved.”

What do you hope to achieve?

“A smooth and worthwhile way by which CBH faculty can develop their courses to include professional students, and for the lifelong learners out there to get flexible access to the excellence that is KTH.”

Peta Sjölander recently quit as director of MedTechLabs and will, in addition to her assignment as coordinator, take over as Director of the Jonasson Centre for Medical Imaging from January 2021.
