Mikael on the analysis of KTH support services

Published Apr 15, 2021

CBH's Head of School, Mikael Lindström, writes about the upcoming analysis of KTH support services.

Today we had our first staff meeting at Campus Solna via Zoom. For those of you who could not participate, there are three more opportunities left  during the next week. We did a business update with a focus on new faculty and promotions in 2021, the financial result for 2020 and our new digital system for incident reporting based on our Aj/Oj system.

We also talked about the KTH President’s decision on at program directives for analyzing KTH’s support services. By developing and making the support services more efficient the goal is to release resources for education and research. A prerequisite for successfully developing the support services and thereby create value for KTH is a culture characterized by cooperation and mutual respect for our various contributions to KTH's education and research. Overall, the development work is expected to contribute to a good working environment, the university's competitiveness and that KTH is perceived as an attractive employer.

The analysis must make visible what support is given and in what way it is implemented. When designing the respective priority support process, an active position must be taken on the following questions: what competencies does the form of support require? What level of service does the form of support require? What cost is the organization prepared to bear for the support area? And which organization is optimal for the support area? This means that each form of support must be organized to provide optimal support, which may mean that the support is given remotely/digitally or that the support is physically close to teachers and researchers.

The school is initially represented in a steering group (Head of School) and in a priority group (Head of Administration). This work is a multi-year programme that we will return to on many occasions.
