Three factors for better recovery

Published Aug 31, 2022

If we want to function well both at work and a home, we need recovery. How much and in what way, differs from person to person. But what, apart from taking breaks, can we do while we are at work? Here are three important factors that researchers claim leads to better recovery.

Variation

Try to vary what you do and change between different tasks. That gives new energy.

A sense of community at work

That’s both a prerequisite for us to be able to recover and gives recovery in itself. Working together, getting positive feedback from your colleagues and support when needed, those are important factors. And don’t skip the ”fika” (coffee break) – chatting and laughing with our colleagues is a way to get to know them better and leads to better recovery.

To feel that we are in control

It’s important that we feel that we can influence our work situation. That we have the time to finish one task before starting with another and that we feel that we are in control.

The manager as role model

“We mustn’t forget that we are all responsible for our own health and that we are all a part of the work environment,” says Ove Strind, deputy HR manager at CBH.

“We know that recovery and reflection not only reduce the negative stress but also help develop our ability to solve demanding situations and problems at work.”

“When it comes to the manager’s role and responsibility, I see our managers as culture bearers. They also need time for recovery and reflection in order to be successful. That the managers have their own recovery in mind sends important signals to the co-workers that we all should take care of ourselves and each other.”
