Nanna Holmgaard List is a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Theoretical Chemistry and Biology.

How does it feel to start at KTH?

“It feels great to finally be here after the ZOOM interview back in December. I arrived in August when all the new students joined – a particularly joyful experience seeing them in colorful decorated outfits making the campus come to life. I look much forward to contribute to both research and teaching activities at KTH.”

What will you do here? Tell me about your research.

“My research is focused on deepening our understanding of photo-induced energy and charge flow, and how the underlying ultrafast coupled electron–nuclear motion governed by quantum mechanics relates to the functional behavior of photoactive molecules and molecular materials. While I develop and apply theoretical methods, strong synergetic efforts with experiments are key to pushing the boundaries of our current knowledge.”

How come you got interested in this field of research?

“There are so many exciting fields! I love the interdisciplinary nature of theoretical chemistry which means that I get to address questions at the intersection between chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and computer science.”

Where did you work before?

“Before arriving at KTH, I was working four years with Prof. Todd J. Martínez at the Department of Chemistry and the PULSE Institute at Stanford University. Currently a scarf is my best friend as I adapt to the colder weather.”
