Amelie on high application numbers and reduced intake targets

We are now approaching the end of yet another intense term. Most exams, project presentations and other assessments have been completed, and after a demanding academic year, our teachers can look forward to a well-deserved summer break. At the same time, we can take pleasure in the continued strong interest in our courses, and looking ahead to the autumn, we are seeing a good level of applications for most of the CBH School’s programmes.

This year, however, the CBH School, like other schools at KTH, will be reducing the number of new students on several of its programmes. The background to this is that KTH, after several years of delivering fewer students than required by the government mandate, now finds itself in a situation where we are producing more education than we are compensated for. We need to adjust the volume to fit the financial framework, but as our educational offering consists primarily of multi-year programmes, changes will only take effect in the long term.

At the CBH School, following discussions, we have decided to reduce the intake targets for new students on several of our programmes, whilst at the same time trying to avoid overly drastic and abrupt changes. I hope that in future we will avoid major fluctuations from one year to the next, as greater predictability makes it easier to plan our activities and create a better working environment for both teachers and students.
