Amelie on KTH’s new employment procedures
Amelie Eriksson Karlström, Head of School at CBH, writes about the draft of new employment procedures for KTH.
In the fall of 2024, a report on KTH’s career system was presented, and over the past year, a working group at KTH has continued to develop several of the report’s proposals into concrete measures. A draft of new employment procedures for KTH has now been presented, and the schools have the opportunity to submit comments. The document includes proposals for new types of faculty positions and roles, such as associate professor outside the academic career track and infrastructure specialist. A review has also been conducted of the evaluation criteria for appointment and promotion to associate professor and professor, with the aim of clarifying the requirements. According to the new proposal, an associate professor shall have the right to apply to be considered for promotion to professor.
I think many of the proposals are good and that the working group has done a very thorough job. However, KTH’s operations differ across various schools and environments, and it is possible that not everyone will be satisfied with the proposed employment regulations. The school’s faculty board will gather feedback from the school’s faculty and researchers, and we plan to discuss this at the next school meeting, which will be held on May 25. I hope many of you will contribute to the school’s response to this consultation on this important issue! You can find the consultation documents on this page (in Swedish), under ‘Remisshandlingar vårterminen 2026:’.
