Abstract: In this presentation Torbjörn will give the key results from a project supported by Volvo Cars and Energimyndigheten, conducted 2017-2018. In this project the cooling circuit of an electrified vehicle was modeled together with the electric propulsion machine, inverter and to some extent the battery. Modelling was conducted both on a very detailed level as well as on a might lighter level, so called thermal LupedParametrModels, where the latter was used in system efficiency analysis. The outcome was a good agreement between theory and ‘real results’, as well as a demonstration that it is possible to save 2-5 % energy by ‘tailoring’ the control of the cooling circuit.

Bio: Torbjörn Thiringer works at Chalmers University of Technology, in Göteborg Sweden, as a professor in applied power electronics. His areas of interest include the modeling, control and grid integration of wind energy converters into power grids as well as power electronics and drives for other types of applications, such as electrified vehicles, buildings and industrial applications. He is also assisting at Volvo Cars 1 1/2 days a week since 2008.
