KTH ranked 33rd worldwide in Engineering

Published Mar 25, 2026

KTH shows solid performance in the newly released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, especially in EECS related subjects.

In the broad subject area Engineering & Technology, KTH is ranked 33rd in the world. By contrast, that subject ranking was 37th place in the past two editions.

The subject ranking highlights the leading universities across areas such general engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering.

Across the indicators used by QS, KTH performs especially well in citations per paper, where the university scores strongly in nearly all subject areas. Indicator weightings vary by discipline, which affects how individual strengths influence the final rankings. Eighteen individual subjects at KTH were ranked this year, with 13 placing among the world’s top 100.

From an EECS point of view, the following results are extra gratifying; "Engineering - Electrical & Electronic" has risen from place 33 (2025) to place 20 (2026) and "Computer Science & Information Systems" has risen from place 69 (2025) to place 61 (2026).

Also "Data Science and Artificial Intelligence" is still highly ranked, even though there is no exact position in this category, but rather a range, 51-100, which is the same as in 2025.

The 13 subjects at KTH, ranked among the world’s top 100.

Worth noticing is also that KTH does well, in addition to its high academic reputation, because of its strong "International Research Network (IRN)".
