EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology

KTH is part of five consortia within the prestigious EU-funded European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), set up in 2008 to boost innovation and entrepreneurship to strengthen European competitiveness and make Europe a global leader in strategic areas.

The winning consortia, selected in strong competition, are called Knowledge & Innovation Communities (KICs) and consists of partners from higher education institutions, research labs and companies. KTH is an active partner in the following:

EIT Digital
EIT InnoEnergy
EIT Raw Materials
EIT Health
EIT Urban Mobility

The involvement in the EIT KICs is strategic to KTH and strengthens the networks and collaboration between KTH researchers and other European research groups and business partners. The networks contribute to stronger applications for EU projects and more EU funding for KTH. The KICS also provide opportunities to develop new KTH core activities in both education and research.

The KICs are set up in close collaboration between academia and industry on a European level and is coordinated in regional nodes. The EIT KIC concept is based on integrating research, education and innovation with entrepreneurship to find solutions to major societal challenges in areas with high innovation potential – and create quality jobs and growth.

KTH is a very active partner and participate in all areas - in educational programmes, innovation activities, business development and acceleration of scaleups.

At KTH there is an academic coordinator per EIT KIC and support functions at the KTH schools as well as within the University Administration. The central support is managed by the EIT KIC coordinator at Research Support Office.
