Survey on research for climate adaptation at KTH

Published Jan 14, 2021

This survey is intended for researchers that either have an interest in doing research for climate adaptation in the future, or are already doing it.

Background

Climate adaptation is defined as “The process of adjustment to actual or expected climate and its effects. In human systems, adaptation seeks to moderate or avoid harm or exploit beneficial opportunities. In some natural systems, human intervention may facilitate adjustment to expected climate and its effects” (IPCC).

KTH adopted in 2019 some Overall objectives and measures for KTH’s implementation of the Climate Framework for Universities. The objective for research says that in 2025: “The integration of sustainable development and climate research in KTH’s research base has increased”. Although mitigation and a climate-neutral society are most emphasized in the objectives, adaptation should naturally be an important part of KTH:s research. As the effects of the climate change becomes even more obvious and alarming, a technical university needs to meet this with solutions, innovations and research of highest quality and relevance.

KTH Sustainability Office is now investigating the interest of a network of researchers, with climate adaptation as the common denominator. The aim is to increase the research for climate adaptation and create new interdisciplinary collaborations.
