KTH becomes a partner in a big EU-project within ERA-NET Smart Cities and Communities programme

Published Mar 22, 2016

IntegrCiTy is a project aiming to create integrated energy networks with opportunities for synergies and increased reliability. Funded by the Swedish Energy Agency within ERA-NET Cofund Smart Cities and Communities programme it involves such partners from Sweden as KTH, Veolia Sverige AB, Riksbyggen, ElectriCity, Europe Power Solution AB and City of Stockholm

The overall goal of the IntegrCiTy project is to foster energy networks interoperability either in existing or future urban infrastructures by developing a dedicated decision-support tool that shall be applied, tested and validated in two Swiss and one Swedish city (Hammarby Sjöstad). This goal shall be achieved by the 1st time development of a time and spatial resolved co-simulation platform allowing model interaction and data exchange to dynamically link energy demand with supply.

The project is Integrating existing tools in a modular way comprising dynamic

  • Energy demand modelling of buildings, neighborhoods and industries
  • Energy supply models (small-large scale, local and central power, heat and cold)
  • Energy distribution models: time resolved network models (heat, gas electricity)

The long term goal is to make this platform accessible for non-expert policy makers and the commercial market

The project is realized through an international consortium within the ERA-NET funding program with participants from 3 Countries: Sweden, Switzerland, Austria comprising research institutes, utility companies, service companies, building companies, cooperatives, cities and cantons. On the Swedish side the project is funded by the Swedish Enegy Agency and involves such companies and organizations as KTH, City of Stockholm, ElectriCity, Riksbyggen, Veolia AB and Europe Power Solutions AB.
