January 10th 2023 End of Support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

January 10th 2023, the Enterprise and Professional versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with ESU "Extended Security Updates" will no longer receive any security updates. Please note that this only applies to standalone installations, i.e. self-managed computers and not platform computers KTH Windows (WIKS) that the IT department delivers.

Microsoft Edge 109 and Google Chrome 110 will be the last versions of their respective browsers to support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

KTH's IT security group SOC strongly recommends upgrading to the latest supported version of Windows if the hardware supports it. If you have older hardware or special equipment that means you cannot upgrade, you need to isolate the hardware and put it behind a firewall/NAT or similar. It is not okay to just put the machine on the black network and think that you are protected.

If you have questions or concerns about various solutions, you can contact KTH's IT security group SOC by sending an email to it-soc@kth.se
