Credit transfer

Here you can find information on how to apply for credit transfer within the doctoral education at SCI, what can be credited, and what supporting documentation is required.

Credit Transfer in Doctoral Education

From 2 March 2026, doctoral students will apply for credit transfer via Ladok. This means that applications are no longer submitted using a paper form. The application must be submitted by the doctoral student themselves in Student-Ladok. In order for the application to be processed by the administrative office, the credit transfer must be registered in the doctoral student’s e-ISP (individual study plan).

A doctoral student at KTH can normally apply for credit transfer for courses and other examined educational components that are relevant to the doctoral program and can be supported with sufficient documentation.

Courses completed at another higher education institution can normally be considered for credit transfer within the doctoral program. This includes, for example, doctoral courses completed at other universities in Sweden or at foreign universities.

Activities that normally cannot be credited as a course in the doctoral program include, for example, conferences, workshops without clear examination, study visits, or other participation that does not include assessment and a passing result.

Supporting Documentation

When submitting your application for credit transfer, you should include documentation of:

* Course description – content, scope, and learning objectives.

* Examination evidence – certificate or confirmation that the course has been completed and passed.

* Documentation of course scope – credits or equivalent, if the course does not have an official course code.

Remember that the course must be registered in your individual study plan (e-ISP).

To avoid unnecessary processing delays, please submit a separate application for each course.
