PhD-course Sustainability Science, 7.5 ECTS
The Division of Industrial Ecology at the ITM School will, with partial financial support from KTH-Sustainability, offer its Sustainability Science course to PhD-students during the period April-October 2013. In the course, students are to write an essay that could pass a scientific review process on how sustainable development should be integrated into their research project. In the essay students should also show that they have got insights of the complexity of environmental global developments, and improved their ability to critically analyze and assess multidisciplinary information, as well as, to communicate a personal scientific attitude and ethos. To support the essay writing, seminars with prominent researchers, literature and other resources will be essential parts of the course. The course is planned to start on 9 April, with introduction, preparations for essay writing and seminars with researchers 9-10 April, 16-17 April and 21 May. Fast working students will be able to present the essay during the period 27 May-29 May while most presentations will be scheduled during intensive course periods in September and October. Examiner will be Associate Professor Björn Frostell. Per Jacobsson, senior advisor, and Daniel Franzén, teacher at Industrial Ecology, will be responsible for course coordination. Information meeting about Formas Call “sustainable building”
March 19th at 13-16, information about FORMAS call "sustainable building" will be given at F3, Lindstedtsvägen 26, KTH. At the meeting, representatives from FORMAS will describe the call as well as their evaluation and assessment process. There will also be time for questions to Formas. Seminar: What is economic sustainability?
While many teachers and researchers at KTH feel quite at home with the ecological dimension of sustainability, the social and economic dimensions are perceived as more hard to grasp. To support the inclusion of also these perspectives, KTH-Sustainability is arranging two seminars during the spring 2013. Each seminar will comprise a number of short presentations followed by discussions. The second seminar focusing on economic sustainability is Thursday Mar 14th at 13.15-15.00 at L21, Drottning Kristinas väg 30 . The number of seats are limited, so please register here .
What is social sustainability? - new group at KTH Social
This group comprise presentations from the seminar on social sustainability held February 7th at KTH, on behalf of KTH Sustainability. The group also contains additional reading material concerning social sustainability. If you want to add material, pose a question or initiate a discussion you're most welcome to do so.

Seminar ’Life Cycle Assessment and Nano-materials’
Friday March 22, at 10.30-11.30 at KTH main library, room Hjärne. Associate professor Stig Irving Olsen, DTU, Dept. of Management Engineering will present his research on environmental assessment of nano-materials. This open seminar is organized by the Life Cycle Network at KTH and CPM-Swedish life cycle center. Register before March 18!
Experts for Horizon 2020 Advisory Groups: Call for expressions of interest
The European Commission is widening its search for experts from all fields to participate in shaping the agenda of Horizon 2020, the European Union's future funding programme for research and innovation. The experts of the advisory groups will provide high quality and timely advice for the preparation of the Horizon 2020 calls for project proposals. The call for expressions of interest will stay open for the lifetime of the Horizon 2020 programme. Experts can register at any time; however only those having expressed their interest no later than 6 March 2013 at 17.00, Brussels local time (CET) will be taken into account for the setting up of the first Horizon 2020 Advisory Groups. Expressions of interest received after this date will be taken into account for the renewal of groups at the end of each mandate. More information and registration of your interest here .
New affiliated Professor in ICT for sustainable development
As of 1 January 2013, Professor Lorenz Hilty is appointed affiliated Professor in ICT for sustainable development at CESC. Professor Lorenz Hilty is a well-known scientific expert in the field of ICT and sustainability. He is based at EMPA/University of Zurich.
