| KTH's climate objectives and measures
KTH is taking the lead in climate change via its new climate targets and determination to be climate neutral by 2045. KTH has developed climate objectives and measures for 2020-2045 in accordance with the Climate Framework. Objectives cover education, research, collaboration and KTH's own emissions are far-reaching, highly detailed and apply for the 25-year period from 2020-2045.
“KTH has made the assessment that the rate of change in climate work must be increased and we want to contribute to this by taking a firm and wide-ranging grip on all our activities,” says Göran Finnveden, Vice President, Sustainable Development. The climate objectives and measures will directly affect KTH's employees and students, as well as KTH's property owners, business partners, financiers and other external partners where so is relevant.

Action plan to reduce emissions from business travel
The President has decided on an action plan “Handlingsplan minskade utsläpp från resor ” (Swedish) which specifies measures, responsibilities, timing of implementation, resources and communication efforts aimed to reduce carbon emissions. One of KTH’s overall sustainability objectives is to achieve a 20 percent reduction in carbon emissions resulting from business travel per full-time employee equivalent. The follow-up of this objective in 2018 shows that KTH has not succeeded in reducing emissions from business travel - emissions have increased. In order for KTH to have a possibility of reaching the objective by 2020, active measures by the administration and all schools must be taken.
Reducing emissions from travel is important for protecting human health and the environment. Further benefits include a better work environment, increased equality and reduced travel costs and positively impacts trust in our sustainability work and trust in KTH as an organisation.

The Frequent Flyer Academy: how can we limit plane travel?
Welcome to a KTH Sustainability Pubnight February 20th, 17:00-19:00. Universities are under pressure to reduce the climate impacts of their operations and air travel is an activity that contributes some of the highest emissions. Academic flying is often justified on the basis that participation in international arenas and travel are important to the production and sharing of new knowledge. But even if that is true, we still need to limit the footprint also of knowledge production. How can that be achieved, what are central arguments and what are the possible consequences? Rethinking Higher Education 2020 – Satellite conference at KTH, 28 march
Rethinking Higher Education conference is organized by the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. For the first time, a take-away packaging system will be tested in Sweden on KTH Campus. You will be able to leave reusable cooffee mugs and food boxes back to site of purchase to be cleaned and reused. This will contribute to resources savings and reduced waste.
