Recruitment process for the next president and deputy president

The president’s mandate period expires on 30 November 2022 and the deputy president’s expires on 31 December 2022. The University Board has started work on developing a proposal for a new president and has appointed a nomination committee for this purpose at a meeting on 9 June 2021. All students and employees at KTH are invited to contribute to these processes during the course of this work.

What the Nomination Committee does

The Nomination Committee works in accordance with Higher Education Ordinance   chapter 2 section 8-13 and the KTH rules of procedure.  The Nomination Committee will submit a proposal for a new president to the University Board that will make a formal decision on this matter on 2 June 2022. The proposal will then be submitted to the government for a final decision. The intention is that the new president will take up the position on 1 December 2022. The recruitment process for a new deputy president will be started as soon as the University Board has forwarded the proposal for a new president to the government.

You can contribute to the recruitment processes

As an employee or student at KTH, you have the opportunity to participate in important parts of the recruitment process. You are invited to contribute with input concerning the employment profile (that is set by the board) and to nominate candidates. Your ideas are important and will contribute to a properly considered recruitment process and the successful recruitment of a president and accordingly head of authority at KTH. Find out how and when you can nominate candidates  . As an employee or student, you will also be given the opportunity participate at the hearing of the final candidate.

Timetable for recruiting a new president

Official timetable (Dnr. V-2021-0300, Ks-code 1.3) for the recruitment of a new president - decided by the University Board at the board meeting of 15 April 2021. Please note that the timetable may be amended in case of unforeseen events, alternatively if steps needs to be either updated or added to the process.

University Board convenes

The Nomination Committee presents a proposal for the final candidate to the Board. The Nomination Committee proposal is to include information on how the gender equality aspects has been taken into account.

If the Board approves the proposal of the final candidate, university employees, students and employee organisations are to be consulted on the proposal. The Nomination Committee will organise a presentation of the proposal and at that time procure viewpoints in writing from university teachers, other employees, students and employee organisations.

University Board convenes

The Nomination Committee submits a final proposal to the Board. In association with this, the Nomination Committee is also to report how teachers and other employees, students and employee organisations have been consulted, what has been noted in association with this, and to report on how the gender equality aspects has been taken into account.

The University Board makes a formal decision and submits their proposal to the government “The University Board resolves to propose that the government should appoint XXX XXX as president of KTH effective 1 December 2022”. A letter with supporting data to the government/Ministry of Education, including the CV of the proposed candidate
