ometimes students need to get custom submission times, extra attempts at a quiz or resume an already submitted quiz. Here are instructions on how to do it in Classic Quizzes.

How do I adjust the quiz for single or multiple student’s?

To moderate a quiz for one student, locate the student and click the Edit icon [1]. You can also filter students in your course by using the "Search People" field [2]

If you want to select multiple students, click the checkbox [1] next to each of their names. If you want to select all students, click the top checkbox [2]. Then click "Change Extensions for X Selected Students" button [3], where X is the number of students you have selected.

Adding Extra Time on Every Attempt

To adjust the time, edit single or multiple students and type the number of extra minutes in the "Extra Time on Every Attempt"field. Extra time can only be added in full-minute increments.

If you are adding time for multiple students, the student extension box will apply the extra time for all selected students.

If the student hasn't taken the quiz, the extra time will be added to the student's initial attempt and additional attempts.

Note: Quiz availability dates still apply when moderating a quiz. If the "Until" date in the quiz settings passes when students are taking the quiz with extended time, the quiz auto-submits even if the student's time extension has not expired.

Add Extra Time on Current Attempt

If a student is currently taking the quiz while you are viewing the Moderate Quiz page, you can extend the quiz time as part of their current attempt.

For current attempts, the remaining time will display next to a clock icon. To extend the time on the quiz, click the clock icon.

Note: You can only extend the time for one current quiz attempt at a time.

The pop-up that appears will show you what time the quiz began, and what time it is scheduled to end.

In the minutes field [1], enter a chosen number of minutes, for example 20 minutes. In the drop-down menu [2] you choose if the current attempt will end, in our example, in 20 minutesfrom now, or if it will end 20 minutes after the current, planned end time.

The maximum time you can extend a current attempt is 1440 minutes (24 hours).

Click the Extend Time button to apply changes.

Note: Quiz availability dates still apply when moderating a quiz. If the Until date passes when students are taking the quiz with extended time, the quiz auto-submits even if the student's time extension has not expired.

Note: Changing the time in relation to the Now option might mean that the student will have less time than was originally on the clock, as you can tell Canvas to end the quiz in 20 minutes from now even if it's actually 30 minutes left. When that happens a pop-up asking you to confirm your choice appears to ensure it was on purpose.

If you want to change this option, click the Cancel button. Otherwise, click the OK button.
