Collegially operated teacher conference (KDL) for teaching development

The project involves conducting a prototype teacher retreat in the summer of 2026 where teachers and teaching teams focus on self-identified teaching development with targeted collegial support, so that the necessary development of the education takes place faster and for more courses at the same time.

This project is implemented at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) within the Future Education programme (project no. 2621-EECS)

Project context

All teaching staff have a backlog of actions (both incremental and more transformative development) for the education they are responsible for. In everyday work, there are poor conditions for more focused collegial development work. In addition, the environment for implementing continuous development of teaching is often experienced as fragmented and fragmented, since working days are spent both on development and implementation of teaching, as well as meetings.

KTH needs to provide teaching staff with the conditions to work collegially with the development of education. Teaching staff usually have responsibility, working hours, and resources to develop their teaching, but a recurring focused context would be needed for the actual implementation to take place. Secondly, the work should be done based on a collegial knowledge base: teachers often know that and what they need to develop but need cooperation and collaboration. Arranging joint dedicated and focused time for this yourself can be difficult and time consuming.

Finding a functioning (preferably recurring) format for such collegial collaboration, with allocated (preferably dedicated) time and clear frameworks, is a prerequisite for the situation to improve on a wider scale.

Purpose (outcome)

The purpose of the project is to support the continuous necessary development of KTH's educational portfolio of courses by implementing prototype activities where teachers and teaching teams focus on implementing self-identified teaching development with targeted support identified through collegial collaboration with the participants of the activities.

In the slightly longer term, the purpose is to use these prototype activities (2026: a teacher internship in August) to iteratively develop a proposal for a collegial organisation that can develop and over time run these activities, first within the school and in the long term for KTH (cross-functionally across all KTH).

The most important impact goal is that the introduction of necessary changes will take place, and be coordinated, faster for more courses, at the same time.

Project results (output)

The project will deliver the following concrete results:

  • R0: A needs-based design of the format for a collegially driven teacher retreat;

  • R1: A completed prototype teacher retreat in the summer of 2026;

  • R2: A proposal for a collegial organisation to manage and develop a recurring teacher retreat with roles with work tasks and % time;

  • R3: A platform for knowledge sharing containing the development work that KDL has supported through its activities (for 2026: the prototype teacher internship with the theme development for/with AI and Intractable Problems)
