Erasmus+ Capacity Building
The Capacity Building action is an opportunity for KTH to seek funding for collaborative capacity-building projects set up and managed by a consortium of higher education institutions from the Programme countries on the one hand and those from certain regions of the world on the other. Capacity Building is one of the actions within the EU programme Erasmus+ and support the modernisation, accessibility and internationalisation of higher education in Partner Countries.
Summary of action
The Erasmus+ Capacity Building action will be funding joint and structural projects primarily between higher education institutions from Programme and eligible Partner Countries. The main objectiv of the action is to;
- Support the modernisation, accessibility and internationalisation of higher education in the Partner Countries;
- Promote cooperation between Programme Countries and eligible Partner Countries (as well as among eligible Partner Countries themselves);
- Promote voluntary convergence with EU developments in higher education;
- Promote people-to-people contacts, intercultural awareness and understanding.
Capacity Building projects can be:
- Joint projects: these help higher education institutions from partner countries to develop, modernise and disseminate new curricula, teaching methods or materials, as well as to boost quality assurance and governance of higher education institutions.
- Structural projects: to develop and reform higher education institutions and systems in partner countries; to enhance their quality and relevance, promote regional cooperation and increase convergence.
Projects can involve, where relevant, NGOs, SMEs and any other organisations with links to higher education institutions. Projects may include an additional mobility component.
Eligible regions and partner countries
Before deciding on preparation of the project application it is important to study carefully the priorities for the partner region/country. Be aware that for the regions 6 (Asia) 8 (Latin America), 9 (Gulf countries) only regional priorities are available. Make sure that your planned application is in line with the priorities.

Please be aware that:
- Serbia can participate only as a Programme Country with revised unit costs.
- Chile and Uruguay have been included into Region 8 " Latin America" in this call.

The application deadline is February 5th 2020, 17:00 Brussels time
Process for preparation of project proposal
- Read the Application guidelines on Capacity building .
- Contact your School/Department Management and Administration in order to ensure internal support to the initiative;
- Prepare a Project Abstract (docx 68 kB) and School approval (docx 62 kB) and forward the signed documents to IRO at least 6 weeks before the submission deadline;
- Contact the Programme Action coordinator at IRO for technical details and support activities related to the writing of the project proposal;
- Begin your work on the project application consisting of an online application and several attachments. Study the detailed budget (xlsm 141 kB) and Detailed project description Structural Projects (docx 121 kB) or Detailed project description Joint Project (docx 118 kB) thoroughly. EACEA declares that in the Erasmus+ projects flat rates and unit costs are extensively used, the respective figures are found in the Detailed budget. We strongly recommend starting your work on the project application as soon as possible by studying the application package including the online application. Please make sure you select the right template depending on the type of project you are going to apply as Joint Projects and Structural measures now use different templates for the detailed project description while the budget file is still the same for both types of project applications.
- Collect the Mandates from the project partners (docx 23 kB) and Declaration of honor (docx 53 kB) ;
- Submit the final draft of the project proposal to IRO at least 2 weeks before the submission deadline in order to allow enough time for the signature process (if needed) and final quality check of the proposal and amendments (if needed).
