Linnaeus-Palme
Linnaeus-Palme is a Sida financed scholarship programme that aims to strengthen Swedish universities cooperation with universities in low and middle income countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The programme encourages long-term collaborative projects, and mutual capacity building and understanding of the participants' cultures. Through Linnaeus-Palme KTH faculty can seek funding for staff and student exchange.
Application process
- The programme is administered by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). You can find more information on the funding that can be expected through the programme (size of grants and flat rate) as well as guidelines for grantees of UHR .
- Make an application based on the application process and the forms are available from UHR .
- Prepare a project abstract and school approval letter Approval Letter (docx 67 kB)
- Leave the application for participation to the KTH contact person for the Linnaeus-Palme programme by the internal deadline as above (in the right side column).
- A summarised frame application is then compiled by KTH and submitted with the respective institutions project applications to UHR.

The programme consists of four parts:
Planning trips
Planning trips serve as preparation for future exchanges. They give Swedish and foreign universities the opportunity to discuss the goals and objectives of the cooperation, structure the exchange and ensure quality. It is important that there is a broad consensus on exchange activities within the institutions. Therefore, planning trips should be undertaken by teachers who are well established in the institutions in each country. For approved planning trips a lump sum to cover travel and living expenses for one week is given.
Teacher exchange
Teacher exchanges gives students the opportunity to be taught by foreign teachers from an international perspective. Both the Swedish and foreign teachers are to teach at undergraduate or graduate level. Teacher exchange involves close collaboration with the host institution's teachers for knowledge and experiences to be spread between the institutions and enrich the teaching in each country. Teacher exchange should also provide a basis for student exchanges. This may involve, for example to ensure the quality and clarify how courses can credited. A teacher exchange involves three to eight weeks and participants can apply for funding for travel and subsistence. Teachers can also receive funding for a two-week language course before their stay abroad.
Student exchange
Student exchange should give students from Sweden and low and middle income countries a meritorious academic education, international experience and understanding of other cultures. Exchange refers to full-time studies for one to two semesters and will be credited after returning home. The requirement is that students will have studied at university level for at least one year prior to departure. Student exchanges are given scholarships to cover the additional costs during their stay abroad.
Evaluation trips
When a cooperation have received funding for at least three years it is possible to carry out evaluation trips. The aim is to jointly monitor and evaluate the cooperation, both from an academic and from an administrative perspective. Evaluation trip is an opportunity to develop and assure the quality of the cooperation. For evaluation trips a lump sum to cover travel and living expenses for one week is given.
