Update of templates for examination rooms and KTH Import Exams

Published Jun 08, 2026

During the summer, the templates for examination rooms in Canvas will be updated. After the update, examination rooms will be created as standard with a module-based structure, in line with KTH's recommendations. This update also includes the template used in KTH Import Exams.

Module-based template becomes standard

Examination rooms will be created with a module-based template, which means that students take part in the examination via modules instead of under Assignments. This template has existed before, but then required the examiner to choose to import that template instead of the one with which the examination room was created.

Why is the change being made?

The update is being carried out in accordance with KTH's recommendations for how examinations should be structured in Canvas.

The aim is to create a more uniform and predictable structure for students and to clarify the order in which instructions, conditions and examination assignments should be done.

What changes in the examination room with the update?

The previous template came with:

  • a home page that referred students to “Assignments”
  • a code of conduct.

The new template comes with:

  • a home page that refers students to “Modules”
  • a code of conduct
  • a page with space for instructions
  • two published modules, the first for the code of conduct and instructions, the second for the exam text
  • an unpublished (hidden) module where you can add your course-specific information about generative AI that applies to the examination.

Note that the modules will be set up so that students must confirm the code of conduct and read the instructions ahead of the exam before they can access the exam text. For this module locking to work, there must be material in each module, which is why it also comes with an empty assignment.

KTH Import Exams: the assignments is placed in modules

KTH Import Exam is minimally affected by the standard for examination rooms becoming module based. What will change is that the assignment created in KTH Import Exam will be placed in a module and the text on the home page is updated to fit the new layout.

The explanatory texts in the app will also be updated to be clearer, but no functionality will change with the text update.
