Working Group for the digitalisation of education

The Working Group for the digitalisation of education (AG) is a temporary organisation which was formed in March 2020 due to the corona pandemic. The mission is to control, coordinate, prioritize and communicate KTH’s resources for the digitalisation of education in order to take advantage of the experiences from the digital transformation during the spring of 2020 in education and examination, and to support the implementation of digital education and examination during the academic year 2020/2021.

Background

Due to the emergency situation that arose due to COVID-19, where KTH during the second half of the spring semester conducted all education remotely and during the academic year 2020/2021 conducts most of its education and examination digitally, the President decided to gather resources to support digital education in the Working Group for the digitalisation of education. The Working Group was established on 19 March 2020 and is expected to end on 31 June 2021. 

The organisation

The working group’s work shall be reported and coordinated with the First and Second Cycle Education Committee and the IT-platform for education’s steering group.

Steering group

The working group receives directives from its steering group consisting of:

  • Joakim Lilliesköld (chairperson)
  • Arnold Pears
  • Katarina Johnsson-Berglund
  • Hans Wohlfarth.

Management group

The working group is led by Stefan Stenbom. The working groups management group consist of team leaders for each team, administrative leaders and IT leaders for the administrative objects, the working group’s staff and line representatives for the participating organisations. 

Units/team

The working group for digitalisation of education consists of:

  • e-learning administrative object (IT at GVS + digital learning at ITM)
  • studadm administrative object 
  • digital examination project 
  • synchronization team for web meeting, video and streaming
  • synchronization team for education administration
  • synchronization team for local support (as of spring semester 2021)
  • staff function for management, coordination and communication

Mission

The working group’s mission was decided in the president’s decision V-2020-0234, V-2020-0411, V-2020-0512 and V-2020-0801. The mission is to control, coordinate, prioritize and communicate KTH’s resources for the digitalisation of education in order to take advantage of the experiences from the digital transformation during the spring of 2020 in education and examination, and to support the implementation of digital education and examination during the academic year 2020/2021.

Overall

In the president’s decision V-2020-0411, KTH’s objectives for the working group digitalisation of education are formulated.

  • Teachers, as far as possible, have access to personal guidance, training activities and training materials in order to continue to develop their use of digital education and examination, both for online and campus-based activities. 
  • Ensure that continuous and systematic evaluation is made of the digital transition of education in order to utilize the experiences of the digital transformation of education and formulate future needs.
  • Ensure that the experiences from the digital transition are translated into pedagogical, technical and administrative recommendations and support. 

Prioritisations

In addition, these measures have been prioritized by the AG steering group / platform steering group / First and Second Cycle Education Committee. 

  • Continue to offer support, personal tutoring and Lunch ‘n’ Learn but customize access as needed.
  • Continue to support the implementation of remote examination.
  • Coordinate efforts in local support for the digitalisation of education (and support the establishment)  
  • Coordinate / support efforts regarding newsletters for teachers about education at KTH.
  • Develop educational support and technical management for web conferencing, video and streaming (where web conferencing has the highest priority).
  • Develop a solution to be able to assess scanned exams in Canvas.
  • Expand the educational offer around workshops and offer them to institutions. Examples: Basics in Canvas, teaching through web meeting, digital examination (continuous / final), classroom teaching with web meeting, flipped classroom and video in teaching.
  • Continue to secure vital systems for the implementation of digital education.
