Two levels of lockdown

If you are planning to conduct an examination using KTH Digicertus Exam, you can choose between general lockdown and specific lockdown in Canvas. General lockdown gives students access to larger parts of Canvas during the examination, while specific lockdown restricts access to a designated examination room. The setting is configured directly in Canvas.

General and specific lockdown

When using KTH Digicertus Exam, there are two levels of lockdown available in Canvas:

  • General lockdown: The student has access to Canvas during the examination, with restricted functionality.
  • Specific lockdown: The student only has access to the examination room associated with the examination. Other Canvas rooms are not accessible.

General lockdown is the default setting and will be used unless you, as the teacher, choose a different option.

We recommend specific lockdown

Specific lockdown gives students access only to the Canvas examination room designated for the examination and is therefore the recommended option. It enhances security and reduces the risk of students accessing material that should not be available during the examination.

In some cases, however, general lockdown may be more appropriate. For example, it can be used when students need access to multiple Canvas rooms during the examination. General lockdown may also be required in situations where specific lockdown is not technically possible, such as when multiple Canvas examination rooms are linked to the same examination booking.

Important: General lockdown for students in Funka examination rooms

Students who take their examination in a Funka examination room will always be subject to general lockdown. Because the lockdown setting is based on the examination room in Canvas, and students from multiple courses often take examinations in the same Funka room, it is not possible to use specific lockdown for these students. If any of your students are taking the examination in a Funka room, you should ensure that material which should not be available during the examination is hidden or restricted in Canvas.
