Digitalisation group meeting - digital competence and change of pedagogy.

The Swedish Digitalisation Council (2018) states that the entire education system needs to be modernized and believes that “Digital maturity in the education system is about several aspects. It is about access to and ability to use digital tools, to bring the digital perspective into the education, ability to use the digitalisation in a pedagogical perspective and distribution of education. ”. They point out in particular that distance education fulfils a future important function and that teachers therefore need competence in online pedagogy.

DigCompEdu

In view of the need to develop pedagogical digital competence for teachers, the EU has developed a framework, DigCompEdu (Redecker, 2017), which is a scientific and elaborate framework developed by the European Commission's Joint Research Center (JRC).

DigCompEdu responds to the growing awareness among many European Member States that teachers need a set of vocational digital skills in order to exploit the potential of digital technology and in order to improve and renew their teaching.

During the autumn of 2020, Mälardalen University / Lärum carried out a pilot project to test a model for competence development within Pedagogical Digital Competence (PDK).
The model provides support for personal competence development, collegial developing pedagogical discussions and for conducting systematic pedagogical competence development.
PDK is a Nordic co-operation in an international context, for review and development of pedagogical digital competence, PDK.

The goal was to find a structured model for the development of pedagogical digital competence. The DigCompEdu framework was chosen to serve as a basis for the model PDK cycle, both for the individual analysis and for collegial discussions.

PDK cycle overview

Right now, there is an interest nationally from various universities to coordinate the work with the development of PDK. Would KTH like to be involved?

Madeleine Tucker Smith, Educational Developer for Learning in STEM, will talk about the pilot project and the PDK cycle.
