Results of the Internal Environmental Audit 2020

An internal environmental audit of KTH was conducted in November 2020. The results show that the audited units meet the requirements of the environmental management system (ISO 14001: 2015) and the ordinance (SFS 2009: 907) in the areas examined.The audit focused on:

• Sustainable development within the educational process schools / GVS
• Organization and governance at departmental level within the schools
• Food and serving (schools / GVS)
• Biodiversity and ecosystem services (GVS)

The audit was coordinated by KTH Sustainability Office together with the Heads of School, Heads of Administration and support functions. We thank all that participated in the audit and all that have worked to improve KTHs environmental and sustainability impacts. Learn more about the audit here (swedish).

KTH takes important step to creating negative emissions
 
Together with Stockholm Exergi and five other of their customers, KTH has signed a declaration of intent for district heating with zero or minus emissions. The ambition is contribute together to achieving climate goals. The parties have signed a letter of intent to buy district heating with zero or minus emissions and support Stockholm Exergi's large-scale biochar investment. This is an important step in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Read more about the initiative here (swedish)
 

Sustainable Development Goals Report 2019

KTH has compiled a report highlighting some of the ways KTH contributes to UN's Sustainable development Goals. 2019 is the first year of reporting and the report will be further developed.
 

Nine Swedish cities and municipalities signed climate contracts today

At the digital event European Viable Cities Day today, the top political leadership for nine Swedish cities and municipalities signed a contract to become climate-neutral cities by 2030. They are the first in Europe to make such a commitment to the climate. The contract has been developed in the innovation program Viable Cities, which is led by KTH. Read the article (swedish)

Award for Vice President for Gender Equality

Anna Wahl, Professor and Vice President for Gender Equality and Values at KTH, has been awarded the Staying Power of the Year Prize by Klara K. She received the award for dedicating her entire research career to leadership, equality and resistance in organisations. Klara K is an equal opportunities agency that lobbies for sustainable employment on equal terms and conditions. Read more here.
 

Environment researcher elected to IVA

Mikael Karlsson, Docent of Environmental Science at the Department of Philosophy and History, has been elected a member of IVA. Karlsson has been inducted into the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) Division of Basic and Interdisciplinary Engineering Sciences. Read more here

Webinar series: Implementing sustainability at universities

  How can we implement sustainability at universities in respect of teaching, research and campus greening? Baltic University Programme (BUP) is organizing a webinar series where these topics are discussed. The main target group for the webinar series is teachers in higher education, especially within the BUP, however the webinars are open for everyone interested. Learn how to participate here
