Fullscale commercial prototype for turn-key sustainable food production

Purpose and goal: The goal is to build a full-scale demonstration plant for sustainable cultivation of aquatic organisms on land. This includes operating, validating and evaluating the technical and biological production process under real conditions.

The purpose is to show the system´s functions and benefits on a scale relevant to the market. Furthermore, the facility will increase the maturity of the technology by taking it from being unproven at full scale to a proven product that can be presented to customers and investors.

The production system should simplify for those who want to start sustainable food production. The cultivation is environmentally friendly and climate-neutral, with good animal husbandry. With environmental benefits, quality and profitability, it is expected that industrial fishing and fish farming in net will gradually be replaced. Lakes and oceans can recover. Furthermore, increased self-sufficiency, regional development and job opportunities in rural areas are expected. Modern technology allows good working environment and better gender equality.

Approach and implementation

The development of the technology has been carried out systematically according to engineering principles. The project consists of 6 phases; construction, commissioning, operation, validation, improvement and follow-up. The first phase is to build and install the production system at full scale in order to validate, further develop and improve the process. During the entire project phase, complex interdisciplinary knowledge and technical development is obtained.
