Postdoc in Collaborative Situational Awareness for autonomous robots

School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH

Job description

Several challenges remain before autonomous robots can be deployed on a larger scale in environments that are not highly structured, preventing flexibility and implementation in more open settings including with human-robot interactions. This specifically concerns situational awareness; an autonomous robot not only needs to gather data from its surroundings, it also needs to understand the situation it is in, to contribute with its intended tasks. Achieving this requires combining various types of sensor data with a priori knowledge of how a system functions within its intended environment. The position focuses on challenges related to this, relevant to multiple application areas such as industrial manufacturing and autonomous vehicles. This postdoc project is connected to the XPRES research center (https://www.xpres.kth.se/) based at KTH.

The postdoc position offers a unique opportunity to conduct research on situational awareness for autonomous robots. You are expected to contribute to research and research collaboration (including with other academic researchers and our industrial partners). There will also be excellent opportunities for experimental evaluation and case studies, which we consider important. You are welcome to contribute to relevant educational efforts, such as formulating and supervising project-related theses and supervising involved PhD students. Other teaching assignments may also be possible depending on your interests.

As a candidate, we believe you have a strong foundation in algorithms, methods, and software engineering for autonomous systems.
