Researcher in Intersectional Feminist AI for Justice and Sustainability

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Job description

We are looking for a motivated researcher to join our project Intersectional Feminist AI for Visibility, Justice, and Sustainability. The project explores how missing data, invisible labor, and environmental costs shape artificial intelligence (AI) systems, and develops tools and frameworks for more accountable and inclusive technologies.

As a researcher, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of computer science, feminist theory, and social justice. You will contribute to developing technical methods such as natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs), and critical visualization tools, while collaborating closely with community partners and organizations.

Your work will focus on one or more of the following areas:

  • Counterdata mapping: using AI-assisted methods to identify and visualize structural absences in datasets related to marginalized communities.
  • Infrastructural labor recognition: documenting and amplifying the voices of AI workers, especially those engaged in hidden or precarious forms of labor.
  • Ecofeminist accountability: assessing the environmental impact of AI systems and contributing to early frameworks for feminist environmental impact assessment.

We offer a dynamic research environment where technical innovation is combined with critical perspectives, collaboration, and societal responsibility. You will join the Division of Software and Computer Systems at KTH, working with colleagues across disciplines in computer science, history of technology, and feminist studies.

We value diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. This position offers an opportunity to contribute not only to scientific knowledge but also to shaping AI systems that better serve people and the planet.
