Research Engineer in Development of Thin-Film-Based Waveguides

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Job description

As a Research Engineer, you will play a central role in the development of a new platform based on ferroelectric thin-film crystals for applications in nonlinear optics and quantum photonics. The work is carried out in close collaboration with researchers, PhD students, and external partners.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Development of processes for the fabrication of ferroelectric thin-film crystals, including wafer bonding, thin-film slicing, and polishing
  • Planning, execution, and optimization of micro- and nanofabrication processes in a cleanroom environment
  • Fabrication of waveguide structures, for example through ion exchange, etching, and laser-based micromachining
  • Modelling and numerical simulation of waveguide structures, including mode analysis, propagation properties, and optimization of geometries for specific functionalities
  • Characterization of materials and devices, including optical measurements (e.g., SPDC and squeezing)
  • Documentation of processes and results, and contribution to scientific publications and technical reports

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence.
  • Master’s degree in physics or a closely related field
