Postdoc in Computational Methods for Games and Multi-Agent Decision Making

Job description

Game theory is rapidly gaining traction in several engineering applications as the natural framework for multi-agent decision making. Yet, unlike optimization, game theory has no mature, general-purpose solvers. Computing an equilibrium of a multi-agent noncooperative game amounts to solving a large-scale generalized equation, and available solutions rely on restrictive assumptions, offer no control over which equilibrium is returned, and scale poorly with the size of the problem. This position addresses the computational side of this gap.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a solid background in one or more of the following areas: game theory, optimization algorithms, and numerical methods. The successful candidate will develop efficient algorithms and computational tools for equilibrium computation in multi-agent games. The work will focus on:

  • Scalable algorithms for various equilibrium problems in multi-agent games;
  • Open-source computational tools and benchmarks;
  • Application of game-theoretic solvers to multi-agent autonomous systems;

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • A strong foundation in mathematical tools relevant for the project.
  • A demonstrated record of research achievements and publications in high-impact venues in automatic control, optimization, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, Julia, or C++) and experience implementing optimization algorithms.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Expertise in operator theory, variational inequalities, or operator-splitting methods.
  • Contributions to optimization software.
  • Teaching abilities and experience mentoring master students.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
