Successful defense of doctoral thesis in Industrial Ecology

On 26 May 2025, Asterios Papageorgiou successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Industrial Ecology.

The thesis is titled "Assessing Circular Economy Progress in Urban Areas – An Industrial Ecology Perspective". Itexplores how to effectively monitor and assess circular economy (CE) progress at the urban level to support informed decision-making. The research combines indicator-based frameworks with urban metabolism methods—specifically material and energy flow analysis (MEFA) and urban metabolic life cycle assessment (UM-LCA)—and develops an integrated assessment framework, applied to the city of Umeå, Sweden.
