To be able to meet many of the societal challenges we face, both today and in the future, it is crucial to understand how water flows through the landscape. The presentation's focus lies on hydrological dynamics and the interaction between surface water and groundwater, as well as the challenges that follow from changes in climate, land use, and societal development. Through time series analyses, field observations, and modeling, it is clarified how altered hydrological conditions affect both natural systems and societal functions – for example, through increased flood risks and changed spread of pollutants.
