Changes to existing course syllabus
Revising a course syllabus is an important step in ensuring that the course content, learning outcomes and forms of examination remain relevant and of high quality. On this page, you will find information about how the revision process works.
What can be changed in a syllabus
What changes can be made to a syllabus and which changes require the establishment of a new course, can be found on KTH's central intranet (in Swedish only).
Deadlines
Any revisions to existing courses shall be reviewed by the school's course syllabus reviewing committee (KPK). Documentation for changes must be sent to the committee as follows:
Programme courses
- 1 March for courses to be given during the autumn semester
- 1 September for courses to be given during the spring semester
Freestanding courses
- 1 June for courses to be given during the spring semester
- 1 September for courses to be given during the summer semester or autumn semester
Note that revision for freestanding courses instances also applies to the programme instances. The course cannot therefore be revised again on the dates of the programme courses.
Process for changes to an existing syllabus
Course coordinator, examiner, director of studies:
- The course coordinator together with the examiner fills out the KTH common form: Bilaga-ändring av uppgifter i kursplan (docx 553 kB) for changes in an existing course syllabus (the form is only available in Swedish). If an English version of the changes is also written, it can be attached when the document is sent to KPK to assist the translation.
- If intented learning outcomes, examination or eligibility changes to the content, and the course is given as mandatory or conditionally elective for a programme, the programme director must be informed of the planned change and have the opportunity to discuss it with the course coordinator and the examiner.
- The director of studies reviews the changes, makes necessary supplements and sends it to the reviewing committee, kursplaner@eecs.kth.se, together with a short motivation for the changes.
Steering documents and supporting documents are avilable at KTH's intranet (in Swedish only) .
The course syllabus reviewing committee and the school’s office of student affairs:
- KPK reviews the proposed changes, fills out any standard texts and sends a revised proposal for referral to the information provider.
- The school’s office of student affairs submits the course syllabus to Ladok for decision by the director of first and second cycle education (GA).
- Once a decision has been made in Ladok, the course syllabus is published in the course- and programme directory.
The decision must be made no later than
Programme courses
- 15 April for courses given during the autumn semester
- 15 October for courses given during the spring semester
Freestanding courses
- 15 June for courses given during the spring semester
- 15 October for courses given during the following autumn semester
