Connecting in the cooling system
On Wednesday 4th August, the main focus of the Dardel installation work was to connect power and water to the cooling system, and to connect the CDU to the cooling loop.
If you missed yesterday’s photos, you can see the
storage racks being added to Dardel here
.
Good morning! Better make sure those screws are tight...
...somebody else just a bunch of tiles away is very fast at connecting power cables...
...and is eager to give power to the storage nodes!
There is something to do at every height. A couple of metres above the ground, on the secondary cooling loop...
...and half a metre under the floor level, where we need the work done (and the approval of a qualified electrician) in order to bring power to the CDU.
Two solid thumbs up; it doesn't get any better!
HPE also needs to check that things look ok from their side... and they do, oh yes, they do!
May the power-up sequence officially start... CDU ON!
Time to fill the secondary loop: on the menu for Dardel today is purified water with rust inhibitors and biocides; the chef is at work!
As the magic poison goes in, air must come out!
Meanwhile adapters are being installed to connect the CDU to the primary cooling loop.
Et voilà! From our cooling loop...
...straight (Oh, well, actually it's not straight at all but a "soft" 90 degree bend!) to the CDU: check!
Naturally the phone rings right in the middle of the action: they delivered the bastion hosts, but to the wrong place! Luckily our hall manager was on his way back from the pizzeria and he went there on wheels, so he can go and pick up the bastion hosts on his way back. ;)
Just like each day so far this week, a lot happened today - time to debrief surrounded by some fresh air!
Tomorrow we’ll be connecting the power cables to the compute racks and powering up Dardel.
