Powering up Dardel phase 1
On Thursday the 5th of August, the main focus was on connecting power to the compute cabinets and then turning on the power.
You can see the
cooling system being connected in yesterday
.
No briefing today - we will be powering up the compute cabinets and everybody is well aware of what they need to do. May the Force be with us then, and let the work begin!
A lot is happening to the compute nodes today: doors are being installed on one side...
...while on the other side both fibre optic...
...and twisted pair cables are being laid down.
There are a lot of cables, and the electrician skilfully and carefully navigates his way around them all while completing the very last electrical connections.
As the Tokyo Olympics wind to a close, at PDC we also pass the torch... down into the subterranean sub-floor depths where one electrical feed for Dardel will be taken from the earlier Milner system at PDC (which was repurposed as a test and development system for Beskow, PDC's flagship system before Dardel).
The electrician smiles behind his mask when he is told that he's about to bring power to the very first compute rack of what - on paper and as of the time of writing - is possibly the most powerful supercomputer of Sweden!
All Power to the Peop...ehm, to Dardel, then!
Trash and unused spare parts start to slowly be moved out of the computer hall; the hardware work will soon be over!
With most of its compute blades powered up and idling, Dardel is now just waiting for the last high-speed network connections to be completed and the final hardware checks to be performed.
Hang on a moment, folks! What is going with the picture on Dardel - wasn’t it supposed to feature “The Dying Dandy”? Er, wait a second, isn’t this
our old friend Lindgren
? Hmmm... maybe there should have been a briefing this morning afterall!
Now let’s see tomorrow’s
Slingshot cabling...
